Mount St Mary's College is a Jesuit Public School on the Headmasters' Conference and is a Roman Catholic school which also welcomes those of other denominations. It was founded in 1842 on the site of the old Jesuit school from Stanley Grange which existed in 1621.
Mount St Mary's is situated in the village of Spinkhill in North East Derbyshire. Set in its own extensive estate of playing fields and farmlands, the College is easily reached from the M1 motorway, Exit 30.
Such places of interest and great natural beauty as Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, the Peak National Park, and Chatsworth House are only a short drive away, and local amenities include the Rother Valley Country Park with its extensive sailing and water-sports facilities.
Barlborough Hall School, the Preparatory School for Mount St Mary's is housed in an Elizabethan Mansion set in its own parkland a little over a mile away.
Mount St Mary's is a Jesuit School and is founded upon a philosophy of education which is inspired by the ideals and thought of the soldier who became St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. Care and concern for the individual lie at the very heart of these ideals. We seek to develop the whole person, with Christ as the model for human life.
The Parable of the Talents informs our work in the fostering of a realistic knowledge, love and acceptance of self and of the world in which we live, and underpins our prime objective; the formation of 'men and women for others'.
Mount St Mary's and Barlborough Hall School both participate in the Government Assisted Places Scheme, and a daily bus service is provided from the West side of Sheffield and from Chesterfield.
Recent developments on the College site are the building, through Appeal funds, of a new Science Block. The playing fields are undergoing a thorough programme of improvement and extension responding tot he sporting success of the representative teams. In 1994 the College 1st XV won the U18 National Knock-Out Competition (Daily Mail Cup) at Twickenham.
A Computer Network has just been installed and a Design Technology Centre re-furbished. Further plans for the Appeal include a new Theatre.
